City trip to ageless London

If you have been following my channels recently you will know i took a short two day trip to London, something a little different than my other trips this year. I have visited London probably over six times but this time i decided to do it as an enthusiastic tourist joined by my mother and sister. A girls weekend to the big smoke with a family bonding edge. I had wanted to take a trip with both my mother and sister for quite some time and thought London was the perfect destination, it also gave me a chance to see the city in a new light. My previous trips usually involved some kind of photoshoot or work with Skysports, built never took the opportunity to take in the sights or culture. I thought it would be manageable to make the most of this London trip over two days, but unfortunately the early morning flights really killed us. Looking back i would have taken that extra day, flying back possibly Sunday night or Monday morning rather then leaving at 6am Sunday morning. I would definitely recommend three days for anyone travelling on a family style trip or possibly avoid super early flights.

Day 1 / Sometimes trying to swindle the best deal can mean early mornings and spending extra time travelling, and in the pursuit of a deal we decided to fly to London Stansted. After a short hour flight we arrived in London Stansted at 7.15am and found our transfer bus, which cost roughly £9 one way.  Taking this route via Stansted does mean an hour flight with an additional 90 minute bus journey to London city center, so be sure to take that in mind for any short weekend trips. It is pretty exhausting and you will find the time just disappear on travel and transfers. That being said we made it to our wonderful central apartment ( My Apartments ) at about 10.30 am, situated in the heart of colourful Piccadilly circus. After a busy morning of travelling we relaxed had a cup of coffee and made a plan for our first day in the big city.

Our first day was blessed with glorious sunshine and we made our way to the beautiful Langham Hotel for our first plan of the trip, a little taste of blissful luxury that went down an absolute treat with my mam. Yes i believe in saving the penneys where you can, but be sure i enjoy spending on the special things and this certainly was every bit special. Afternoon tea at The Palm Court was the ultimate start to our London weekend where we enjoyed luscious treats and a side of bubbles. Worth putting into the diary for any girls weekend, also a nice chance to hide away from the madness and rest the feet after hours of exploration. After two hours we made our way to the best view of London at  The view from the shard and coincidentally picked the PERFECT time to visit the attraction. Between 5 and 6 you can experience a really unique view of London both in sunlight and darkness which was really something and promises AMAZING photographs of the city.

Three art loving ladies in London obviously meant we had to visit The Tate Modern and it was the last stop of an eventful, long but fun first day in the city. Its a free attraction and you don’t need to be a graphic designer or artist to go and appreciate the work on display. Three sleepy zombies then jumped the tube back to our apartment and tucked ourselves in for an early night in the hope of waking up fresh and energized for day two.

Day 2 / Rested and rejuvenated team Donegan were ready for day two and what was to be our last day in the city. As a self confessed cinnamon addict i couldn’t pass the opportunity to try out American brand Cinnabon, which was conveniently situated across the street from our Piccadilly apartment. Since time was against us for this trip it seemed logical to jump on one of the London bus tours and take in as much of the city as possible. It was cold, it was windy, there was traffic but my god did we have such a laugh. Waving at strangers around the city and checking out major sightseeing spots like Buckingham Palace, The London Eye, St Paul’s Cathedral and many many others over the 3 hour bus journey. We decided to jump off at Trafalgar square to take some photographs and grab some lunch before strolling back to our Piccadilly base. We decided to end the trip on a really fun high by having dinner at the most modern fun restaurant called Inamo. An Asian fusion restaurant in Covent Garden with a really futuristic twist, from online ordering to a digital interactive table where you can watch the chefs cook up a storm or play ping pong. The food was delicious and i am still dreaming about the basil panna cotta, which was utterly blissful. The perfect end to our family weekend and we topped it all off with an early night back in our apartment watching our fav saturday night tv shows.

Looking back i would definitely recommend an extra day in London and avoid early flights as much as possible. Take the bus tour on the first day of your trip, that way you can take in the entire city and decide your favourite places worth visiting after.

Accommodation

I decided to try something a little different for this trip and go with an apartment stay rather than the typical hotel stay. With price and number of beds in mind i thought it would be the best option for this short weekend trip. It turned out to be a great choice mostly because of the location which was right in the middle of the

action on Piccadilly Circus. The apartment had everything we needed, most importantly WIFI and a comfortable bed. It also included a kitchen, modern bathroom and living area where you can watch a spot of TV if desired. Since i was travelling with family we actually found ourselves back in the apartment quite early on both nights so we were only thrilled to be able to catch our favourite weekend TV shows.  Rates start from £164 which translates into roughly €55 each (3 people). My Apartments offer accommodation for small to larger groups and have locations all across London. I Would highly recommend this option for a family or for the ultimate girls weekend, affordable accommodation in  London situated in the BEST locations.
